A dying father. A loving son. A modern solution.
During a state of emergency, an inventor sends a self-building robot to care for his father in his dying days. But as it gets creative with the rules by which it’s governed, it starts to pose a threat to the whole of humanity.
THE CAST
Jarod
played by Samual Turner
SAMUAL TURNER began his journey acting in 2014. After studying performing arts at South Devon college, he continued to sharpen his acting skills by joining Doorstep Arts, an amateur dramatics and musical theatre group. This is where Sam starred in a number of productions, such as Doorstep’s own original play Grit, directed by Erin Walcon and performed at the Palace Theatre in Paignton.
In 2018 he moved to London to expand his knowledge and gain more experience within the acting industry, leading him to star in various adverts, music videos, and feature films.
Sam has a passion for music, film, and theatre, and he is hugely excited to be working with Jody Medland, along with the talented cast in Silo, for the very first time.
Noah
played by Wayne Murphy-Jerrett
WAYNE S. MURPHY-JERRETT has studied method acting in London with Sam Rumbelow and Brian Timoney, as well as summer schools at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and the Cygnet Theatre, Exeter.
His first acting experience came at Fringe Theatrefest, which he followed up by playing George Bamberger in Peter Shaffer's Black Comedy and A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Landmark Theatre, and then Alvin Walker at The Queen’s Theatre.
Wayne has a first-class degree in computer science and a CV that labels him as a software engineer, but his compulsion for performing will see him work with Jody Medland for the third time in the role of Noah in Silo.
Silo
played by Emma Berridge
EMMA BERRIDGE has studied Drama at Exeter University and graduated with an MA in Acting from Arts Educational in 2021.
Her favourite roles at drama school include Natasha in Chekov’s Three Sisters, Celia in Shakespeare’s As You Like It along with the challenge of multi-rolling in Katzenmusik by Tom Fowler.
Emma has had a love of performing from the age of 7 and landed her first professional role in Edie’s War by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm, performed at the Plough Arts Centre, Torrington, in June 2022. She then went on to play Cely in Dead Parent’s Club by Jody Medland in November that same year and is looking forward to taking on the title role of Silo in Jody Medland’s latest play.
THE CREATOR
Jody Medland | Writer, Producer & Director
JODY MEDLAND is a screenwriter, author and playwright whose work is renowned for its strong characters and original concepts.
Silo was written during the pandemic when he learned his dad had terminal cancer and is based heavily on his thoughts and feelings during that time. It also tackles themes such as male-on-male relationships, and ethics surrounding the relationship between humanity and technology.
When not juggling his numerous projects, Jody can be found spending time with his family, or people-watching whilst sipping on a hazelnut latte.
On 8 September 2022 (International Literacy Day) Jody released an anthology of one act plays, titled Spectrum: Volume One, where each play tackles different human emotions and challenging themes. Silo is the fifth play in the anthology, and anyone who attends the show can buy a signed copy of the book for half price - £4.99 instead of £9.99. You simply need to show your ticket or receipt for Silo when purchasing the book in the foyer.
