Downtrodden Abbey: the Tale of the Two Fannies
UP CLOSE THEATRE
A vintage radio mayhem production

We visit Downtrodden Abbey and the troubles with Lady Fanny! Why are there two Fannies in the abbey? Where is the toast rack? What about Albert’s bells? Who will be safe from us?

Up Close Theatre is a North Devon community based theatre company run for and by members of the North Devon community. Started 8 years ago and based in Bideford we have produced over 17 productions and we have toured around North Devon and parts of Cornwall as well as Somerset. We have performed in a variety of venues: restaurants, pubs, village halls, community centres, The Landmark & Queen's Theatre as well as the Northcott in Exeter. Along with these venues we have done an outdoor theatre run of "War of the Worlds - vintage radio play" at Tapeley Park and Knackershole Garden Theatre.

Up Close produces a wide range of drama and plays, from comedy through to intense dramatic plays. We produce professionally written plays as well as group self-developed plays.

During COVID, Up Close Theatre did not stop working and we started a community radio station to keep the community informed and in touch with theatre and people. Since then we have continued to develop Soundwave Radio and we now run a 24/7 online radio station with 20 local presenters. We also run an outdoor event stage trailer for local community events and broadcasts. We love getting the radio station and the theatre company out amongst the community.

During the fringe why not come and see us from 11am to 6pm on The Square in Barnstaple as we broadcast for that weekend as Soundwave Fringe Radio. We are always looking for new presenters and actors - so come and see us and see what we are about.

So what does Up Close Theatre have in store?

For the fringe we are doing one of our well known and well loved "Vintage radio mayhem productions". This year we bring the rather naughty "Downtrodden Abbey: the Tale of the Two Fannies".

Then in August we are doing our outdoor production run of " The Day of the Triffids".

We will be performing at :

  • Castle Centre Gardens, Torrington; 19th August, 6pm
  • The Rustic Garden, Bude; 20th August from 5pm
  • Knackershole Garden Theatre, Dulverton 26th August from 6pm
Ticket information to be published soon.
