This is a pay-what-you-will-show. There are no tickets but there will be a bucket-collection.
You can also make cash or card donations at the central box office or donate an eFringer credit if you have one available.
Catch our playwrights around the fringe and for a pound they'll write you a unique one-page play. In our evening show our actors perform as many one-page plays as they can in 60 mins!
If you want to have a play written for our show you can find our playwrights out on the streets during the fringe and commission them (all profits go to local foodbanks), or purchase via our website www.downstagewrite.uk or there is even a chance to have a play written during the show itself!
Down Stage Write is a theatre company dedicated to growing new plays in Devon and Cornwall. We do this through workshops, courses and script development across the region. We also get writers work out to audiences on stage, on radio, on screen and sometimes in other places (like Whatsapp!). Recent productions include 'Climate/Change' four short new plays by local writers tackling the climate crisis performed in non theatre spaces in Plymouth and Torbay, 'Beat of Your Own Drum' written with secondary school pupils in Plymouth and 'Write Out Loud!' four short films by local lgbtq writers. If you've ever thought about writing for performance we want to hear from you and help you get your words into the world!
Playwrights For Hire
has previously performed at Plymouth Art Weekender, Plymouth Fringe Festival, Exeter Fringe Festival and Plymouth University Freshers Week. Our speedy fingered playwrights have created over 200 one page plays on topics from dinosaurs to human rights to duck attacks. At our shows performers from across the fringe and from our previous productions bravely tackle short plays hot off the presses and aim to perform as many of them as possible within the hour.
