about Women What Dance and the company

Raconteur was founded in 2022 with its debut production, Out Of Words, at last year’s Barnstaple TheatreFest. This year's offering, Women What Dance, is made up of a local ensemble at different stages of their dancing lives. Graduate, professional and retired dancers come together to celebrate their love of dance, sharing the ups and the downs, they challenge what it means to be a dancing woman.

With busy lives, the ensemble have pushed, stretched (if you will excuse the pun) and challenged themselves to dance outside of their comfort zones. They have faced their demons head on to bring you a show that weaves together individual dance stories, shining a light on contrasting styles, all of which are underpinned by common principles of discipline and determination. As a dancer, you feel compelled to move in order to truly express yourself, and never more so than when you hear music. So eight women unleash themselves at TheatreFest 2023.
