Connie Converse was a groundbreaking singer, songwriter, and activist born in 1924. In 1974, she drove off in her Mini Cooper and vanished without a trace. Her disappearance remains one of music’s great mysteries.

A gifted academic, Connie dropped out of college and moved to New York City, where she immersed herself in the creative bohemian world of San Juan Hill. There, she lived a life filled with artistic exploration, free-spirited rebellion, political activism, and unfulfilled potential. Ahead of her time, her music—an intimate mix of folk and jazz—was personal, poetic, and deeply complex. Yet, despite her talent, she never found the success she deserved.

This show marks Poppy King’s first writing venture, one of deep personal interest. Poppy discovered Connie Converse during a late-night drive last winter, a year that also marked Connie’s 100th birthday. Driven to learn the guitar and immerse herself fully in the project, Poppy was determined to create a piece of theatre that would do justice to Connie’s memory and leave no stone unturned.
