The Baptist Hall is at the top end of Boutport Street, next to the Baptist Church. This fine, historic building provides a large enough space to accommodate a generous 60 seat studio theatre, big enough to accommodate large casts, yet intimate enough to present one-person shows.

2 The Guildhall

The Guildhall is one of Barnstaple's most picturesque historic building and has been made available to Fringe TheatreFest thanks to Barnstaple Town Council. This atmospheric venue boasts a large performance area and raked seating that holds 80.

3 St Anne's Arts Centre

St Anne's Arts & Community Centre provides an adaptable 50-seat setting for innovative work. The building itself is well worth a visit, steeped, as it is, in history. The Plough Arts Centre programme St Anne's and they have made the venue available to us.

4 Castle Centre

Castle Centre provides a 60-seat end-on venue with a low raised stage. It is a well-focussed venue, presenting farcical comedy, hard-hitting drama and everything in between. This venue has been made available to Fringe TheatreFest through the support of Barnstaple Town Council.

5 Tent on the Strand

The Tent on the Strand is a sturdy structure that belongs to The Common Players and is configured into an atmospheric 60-seat venue. This year it will be located on the Strand outside Queen Anne's Café.

The Southgate is a fine eatery between High Street and the Square. The 30-seater first-floor venue is an ideal, focussed space for stand-up comedy and intimate drama. Audiences will be encouraged to take up drinks - alcoholic or teas and coffees - from the bar.

7 Golden Lion Tap

The Golden Lion Tap is an old coaching inn that borders The Square. The management have generously made available the large back room that is well-known in the town as a music venue. This will be configured as a studio/cabaret space with room for 60.

The grassed areas flanked by St Anne's Arts Centre (originally a Chapel) and St Peter's Church provide an oasis of green in the middle of town. The seagulls like it, the pigeons like it - and so will you as you enjoy some Saturday morning youth theatre.

As well as ticketed performances upstairs during the evenings, The Southgate will be hosting a breakfast show on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings. They're breakfasts are to die for - as is all the nosh. A great way to set yourself up for a day of 'fringeing'.

8 Barnstaple Coffee Shop

The Barnstaple Coffee Shop plays host to a free Taster Sessions - 5 minute previews - on Wed 26 June from 3.00 - 4.00pm. It has also got great coffee cakes and a substantial all-day menu - very popular as a breakfast destination with performers. The taster session is a free event

9 Green Lanes Shopping Centre

Green Lanes Shopping Centre is the venue for a range of shows from a musical and a circus extravaganza to a mini Romeo & Juliet performed by a primary school drama club. Enjoy the food and retail alongside the shows.

The Cove Boutique is where a comedy/horror film will be recorded in a day - which will then be shown at Golden Lion Tap on the Sunday evening. The Cove Boutique also has a great reputation for hosting young bands. And check out the clothes.

Castle Green is Barnstaple's most extensive in town green space and is the perfect setting for an intense 20 minute version of Romeo and Juliet by a local Primary School. If it rains you can catch a performance in Green Lanes Shopping Centre.

Barnstaple Library always has a lot of activities going. Fringe is adding to the fun with a storytelling session for little ones on the Thursday.

The High Street is the place for a whole variety of encounters over the Festival, including dancers, a magician and a 7 foot unicycle. The Fringe comes to you, rather than you having to hunt out the Fringe.

Escape Down The Rabbit Hole is hosting some bitter-sweet drama, reflective poetry and outrageous stand-up on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. During the day you can eat, drink and challenge yourself with the fiendish delights of the Escape Rooms.

15 Queen's Theatre

It's great to have the Queen's Theatre back as part of Fringe TheatreFest. This is a pay-what-you-will venue this year. There will be four different productions in the main house and plenty of activity going on in the café upstairs - see separate venue information.

Upstairs at the Queen's is the café, which will host hour-long 'taster' sessions on the Thursday and Friday of the Festival at 2pm. The taster sessions are free events. There will also be a half-hour performance in the evenings and other extempore entertainment during the course of the Festival.

Ever enterprising Up Close Theatre a running an Alt Space venue in the Liberal Club. Like other Alt Space venues, this is a pay-what-you-will venue and is presenting two shows from Up Close Theatre plus comedian Gerard Harris.

The Strand hints at Barnstaple's maritime past when this area was a busy wharf. It's now largely pedestrianised with a selection of eating and drinking options. Not far from the Tent you will find an extraordinary evening performance inviting us to look afresh at a familiar activity - sleep.

The Old Magistrates Court, housed in Bridge Chambers, is possibly the most beautiful hall in Barnstaple. And is rarely open to the public. There are some great shows on offer here, but the room itself also has wow factor and is definitely something not to be missed.

The Square will host a circus/street theatre extravaganza on the Saturday evening, a Hule Hoop Troupe on the Thursday afternoon and a number of impromptu events.
