Dreamshed Theatre

Welcome to an hour of live music and illustrated readings of Gypsy fables, adapted from the journal of Walter Starkie by Peter Stone & Dreamshed Theatre.

These fables are voiced and the music is played by actor/musicians Paul Southcott and Peter Stone. The production is directed by Bill Cronshaw - founder of Dreamshed Theatre.

"In 2001 while searching through a bookstall I stumbled on an old edition of a book entitled ‘Raggle-Taggle’, by Walter Starkie.

As soon as I turned the first page, illustrated by musical score and wistful reminiscences, I found myself travelling a literary journey through lands that were shortly to be changed forever by a Second World War.

It was at the end of the book, when Walter Starkie predicted an end to the world, that I realised that his warning had travelled through time and his message was as relevant today as it was in 1927.

Walter Starkie, renowned academic and translator of Spanish Literature, died in 1974 in Madrid leaving a literary legacy for us all to enjoy."
