SourDough Theatre

SourDough Theatre consists of nine members. Each one has called at least two very different towns their own throughout their lives. Their new devised piece explores the connections such towns hold with themselves and others.

Drawing on the many disciplines and interests the company share, SourDough Theatre blend memory with place, fact with imagination; Hometowns taps into something both personal and universal.

“He'd tousle my hair and say son take a good look around this is your hometown....”
Bruce Springsteen

“Place exists at different scales. At one extreme a favourite armchair is a place, at the other extreme the whole earth. Homeland is an important type of place at the medium scale... Human groups everywhere tend to regard their own homeland as the centre of the world.” Yi-Fu Tuan

“The land is permanent, man disappears”

“Mine is the land, the land of my ancestors” Maori proverbs

SourDough Theatre is an emerging collaborative company based in Exeter, who work organically with both new and old media to devise performance with storytelling at its heart. They use visual devices such as shadow puppetry, masks, candlelight and torch light to generate their language for performance.
