Part comedy. Part drama. Part cautionary tale. In this one-person-play, a young backpacker named Ben finds himself in an idyllic , all-singing, all-dancing, spiritual community. There is one problem though… It's almost definitely a cult.
Over the span of three years, Ben must navigate all the wonders and oddities (and controversies) of his new found “family,”all the while discovering who he truly is in this very, very strange world. This intimate and darkly amusing story examines innate feelings of belonging and identity, giving a fresh perspective on why someone might join a cult, or even more, choose to stay in one.
I Think I Made a Terrible Mistake began as a twenty minute short play which premiered at last year’s Fringe Theatrefest. After an overwhelming positive reaction from audiences, and a growing personal attachment to the central character, I was eager to expand the story into a much longer, much more in-depth piece, whilst still tackling the same themes and messages echoed in the initial production. With that, I am very excited to kickstart rehearsals and reveal the full piece to theatergoers in June. See you there!
