Fire in the Belly
Poorhouse Productions

As if from the grave, Woody Guthrie looks back over his life, 1912-1967, and reflects on his loves and fire plagued life.

“A lot of things have been said and written about me since the day that I died, so I thought I’d like to say a few words myself and share a few thoughts and some songs with you good people here.”

The piece is an attempt to try and get under the skin of Woody Guthrie and present the man as opposed to the political icon that he is quite rightly held up to be. The Great Depression and the Duststorms that ravaged Oklahoma and beyond in many ways shaped Woody and his way of looking at the world: “All you can write is what you see”.

This is “a must see emotionally fuelled performance for lovers of music and stories alike”
