Navigating one’s queerness is a lifelong odyssey!

Three-time Prague Fringe Award nominee

John Arthur Sweet

makes his first non-virtual appearance in Barnstaple with an autobiographical mélange of theatrical monologue, storytelling, and spoken word. This is the tale of a gay, bullied smalltown Canadian kid from Queen Mary Public School who found refuge in theatre.

The show is in two stand-alone parts: Part 1 (Childhood) and Part 2 (Adulthood). You don’t need to see both, or to see them in order!

Thu at 19:45   Part 1
Sat at 17:30  : Part 1
Sun at 16:45   Part 2

Content warning: Numerous pop culture references from the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s.

Prague Fringe 2023 reviews:

“Sweet explores the complexities of self-identity and the power of theatre as a transformative medium. His introspective journey, intertwined with poignant autobiographical poetry, resonates deeply and encourages us to embrace our true selves”
Megan Meunier, Prague Youth Theatre

“It is not often we are offered such an intimate glimpse into an artist’s personal journey. Sweet is truly a mosaic of all that he has encountered and he has framed this mosaic for the world to see, offering the opportunity to gain just a little bit more valuable understanding”
Sarah Kher-Bek, Binge Fringe
